The Administrative Arm and the Division of the Morobe Provincial Government
|Mr. Kemusung Tomala - Provincial Administrator
The Morobe Provincial Administration is the administrative arm of Morobe
Provincial Government. It has the responsibility to advise the Morobe Provincial Government on policy matters and implement
the decisions of government. MPA consists of fourteen divisions and 9 districts that spread all over Morobe Province.
MPA is headed by the Provincial Administrator. Currently Mr.
Kemusung Tomala is the Provincial Administrator. The National Executive Council appoints the Provincial Administrator.
The MPA has an approved Public Service Structure and the functions are specified under the Organic Law on Provincial Governments
and Local-Level Government of 1995.
Morobe Provincial Administration is one of the biggest administrations in Papua
New Guinea. It has staff strength of over 1500 personnel including
the senior management staff of Lae City Council. The Districts are headed by District Administrators.
primary function of the MPA is to formulate development plans, policies and budgets
and assist the Morobe Provincial Government to implement the plans and policies. Other functions of government are such
as; education, health, agriculture, commerce, fisheries, lands, mines and natural resources, local government affairs, human
resource management, finance, community development and sports culture.
The MPA have assisted MPG to develop its
Five-Year Development Plan for the period 2008-2012. It has now published the Corporate Plan for the administration for the same period, which was launched in November 2008. The
Office of the Provincial Administrator is the main link between other national line departments, non governmental organizations,
faith based organizations and community based organization. The Provincial Administrator is the chairman to various
other committees including HIV/AIDS in the province.
